After years of pushing for ‘secure by default’ websites, Google has announced the following in Feb 2018: You have until July 2018 to install ssl or Google will mark your website as “not secure” within the address bar or Chrome browser. With the release of Chrome 68 browser in July, any website served without https: is going to get a “Not secure” indicator.
Based on Wikipedia information, Google Chrome browser has a world wide market share of 60% on desktop and mobile devices. Safari is second with 17%. As Chrome is the preferred browser for 60% of internet users, we cannot ignore this drive by Google. What is ssl?
